Italian Carro Armato M 13/40 "Under the sun of Africa"

The Fiat-Ansaldo M13/40 was an Italian medium tank according to the Italian tank weight standards at the time: 13 tonnes was the scheduled weight and 1940 the initial year of production. Most of all were deployed against the British forces in North Africa. Nearly 800 M13/40 were produced.

Some times ago TAMIYA relaunched a newly tooled version of her old M 13/40 kit under item number 35296. Basically the old kit from the seventhies, only the suspension gear and the tracks are newly tooled. This parts looks very very fine and are very detailed. Additionally there are a aluminium turned barrel and some useful PE-Parts. I´ve build this kit straight from the box.

Assembling is typical for TAMIYA kits - "shake the box and the kit is build". Ok, there where some problems at the fitting on the upper hull. I must fill some gaps.

Here you see a picture of the assembled model:

Painting was done - as usally - with Tamiya acrylics. I didn´t used here the color modulation style and returned back to the "traditional" style - higlighting the inner and upper areas only by adding lighter shades to the base coate.

The Detailwash was made with oilpaints from MIG-Production - here I choosed a mixture of black and wash brown, diluted with the Thinner from MIG. I think the effect is clearly to see - all details are much more articulated.

In the meantime I started with the paintchips - here I used different (sandcoloured) Vallejo paints, a small brush and I worked very very slow. :-) Here you can see the first light chips.

to be continued...
